The shad may be long gone but there are still plenty of fishing opportunities in the DC area. Schoolie stripers can still be found concentrated around Chain Bridge and are still willing to bite a jig or a trolled crankbait. The heat over the last week has brought gar into the Fletcher’s area and if you find them in a feeding mood you can catch them site casting large rope flies. Mulberry trees all over the area are ripening which means a good carp bite until the end of the mulberry season. Walleyes have become more active in the main channel but the smallmouth are still curiously MIA.
