Smallmouth bass and walleye have become very active in the upper tidal Potomac.  Outgoing tides in the mornings and evenings have proven to be the best time but with adjustments of location and technique these fish can be caught under many conditions.  As the river level drops during the summer months these fish move to the current between Chain Bridge and Little Falls.  Smaller stripers can still be found as well.  Tube worms seem to work best but as the summer progresses the top water bite will become very good.  Shad and herring fry have hatched and will provide plenty of bait for the bass all summer long.
