Usually, one day in spring each year the stars align for an epic day of striper fishing, this year it happened to fall on my birthday. Early in the week we watched as the river gradually cleared and fell to the magic level of 4.4ft on the Little Falls USGS gauge. In years past this has produced a great striper bite, this year was no different. The bite lasted through the day and the few anglers that eschewed the shad were rewarded with double-digit counts for striped bass.
