Low water levels can be a blessing and a curse.  On the downside it tends to leave long stretches of river seemingly lifeless but on the other hand it concentrates fish into predictable area such as deep water or the few places left with significant current.  Unfortunately for the angler low river levels tend to concentrate the bait as well leaving the fish with plenty of natural food.  Many smaller fish are still eager to eat anything that washes into their zone but the bigger fish become elusive this time of year.  One local spot that provides plenty of current and deeper water despite the low levels is the area immediately upstream of the Anglers Inn access.  Best fished from a canoe or kayak this area holds smallmouth all summer and even resident Striped Bass inhabit these waters as I found out the other day as I had a couple blow up on topwater lures in the evening.
