Afternoon thunderstorms for the last week have helped keep the river at an ideal level for smallmouth and walleye in the tidal Potomac. Bass are stacked up in predictable places and also scattered between Fletcher’s and Little Falls. Smaller stripers are still being caught in the same stretch of river. Tube worms and deep diving trolled crankbaits have been producing best in the deeper, slower water but in the faster water above Chain Bridge a variety of lures will work.
